Primate Cones and Horizontal Cells

This image comes to us from the very talented Nicolás Cuenca who maintains the excellent Retinal Microscopy website.  Nico also provided the imagery for the avatar at the upper right as well as the “book” cover image for Webvision.

The image above shows a section of primate retina stained with antibodies against parvalbumin to identify horizontal cells (green) and calbindin (blue) to immunostain cones, cone bipolars and some types of amacrine and ganglion cells.  This image won an award from the Network of Valencia Universities for the Promotion of Research, Development and Innovation. RUVID 2007.  See more retinal pictures at www.retinalmicroscopy.com
