There is no medicine currently available to treat color blindness. However, gene therapy trials have been prototyped by the Neitz group in animal models, so there may be some hope of a treatment for color blindness in the future.

There are a number of online sites out there with a quick Google search. I have not validated any of them and therefore will not link any of them though a quick search for “online color blindness test” should find you at least a page of them. You should use that potentially as a screen, but then go to see an ophthalmologist for a proper evaluation.

Thanks for the article, and for a great online textbook overall.

I’ve made a webapp that may be of interest, and I wanted to share it here. It lets you draw an electromagnetic spectrum and then shows you the color a human would perceive if they saw that spectrum.

thanks much…I tried them before but they haven’t responded..I think its because am an International. But i’ll try them again cause i really need this done as soon as. One other question though. Would it be an issue in having two different doctors signing off on the medical cause i passed all the other stuff by the AME so was just the color vision issue to deal with by another doctor?

Hey Dwight,

I would suggest finding an ophthalmologist (not an optometrist) close to where you live that specializes in color vision and its deficiencies. In fact, the FAA should be able to recommend physicians for consults that deal with 14 CFR Part 67 regulations. can someone please help me. Am looking for a Dr. where i could do a color vision test in order for me to attend flight school. I’ve failed the Ishiara Test (Confusion Plates) but was told by the FAA that there’s some other Alternative test which could be done as;
